We love it when friendship is important on TV shows, and we love that it is so important on Lost Girl. We discuss how friendship is central to the show’s premise as well as talk about some of the great friendships on Lost Girl.
Guest stars are an important but often overlooked element of successful TV episodes. We discuss some of our favorite guest stars that have appeared on Lost Girl over the seasons.
We have previously discussed the similarities and influences of Buffy the Vampire Slayer on Lost Girl, but Xena: Warrior Princess also played an important part in laying the foundation for female-led fantasy shows. We discuss the similarities between Lost Girl and Xena, including their redemption story arcs, strong female friendships, and importance to the LGBT community.
We love on K.C. Collins this week and share our appreciation for Hale and the actor who plays him. We talk about our favorite Hale moments, what we love about Hale, and sing the praises of our favorite siren.
After learning from The Una Mens that she had somehow pledged herself to the Dark, Bo goes looking for Vex to try to undo it. Promising to help her find Vex, The Morrigan invites Bo to a Dark Fae party where she discovers that Lauren has also been taken into the fold. Kenzi and Tamsin discover that Bruce has been made a slave to another Fae as punishment for helping Kenzi, and they try to free him. Trick is summoned before The Una Mens who have some questions about The Blood King.
Lost Girl showrunner Emily Andras was kind enough to join us for a chat. We ask her about how the writing process works on Lost Girl, if the writers are still planning to hold Kenzi to that favor she owes The Morrigan from “Table for Fae,” who came up with the brilliant idea for that car wash promo, and whether she has a bet going with the other writers to get Ksenia Solo to make out with as many of her fellow cast members as possible.
While she was torn between two lovers in season one, Bo’s love life became even more complicated with the introduction of Nadia and Ciara, the love interests of her love interests, in season two. Both characters were brought on for essentially the same purpose — to make Bo’s love interests even more out of reach — but they received very different treatment in their storylines. We discuss their characterizations, their relationships with Bo, and their deaths.
Kenzi is the ultimate snarky sidekick, always there for Bo with a witty remark or hug, and her relationship with Bo is often cited to be the core of Lost Girl. We discuss Kenzi’s humanity as her “superpower,” her relationships (and their importance) with others on the show, and the possibility of Kenzi becoming Fae.
Dyson is often described as an “alpha male,” and while he certainly does act out that role often, his portrayal and his storyline includes some elements that differ from the stereotypical alpha male. We discuss his non-romantic relationships with women, whether he could be in a non-monogamous relationship with Bo, and more.
